About Bluffalo

Bluffalo is a creative category word game where the most obscure answer wins. Players race to come up with answers that start with a given letter across a set of categories. The twist: duplicate answers score zero, so you need to think outside the box to win.

Why We Built It

Bluffalo started as an idea for a fun party game — something you could pull up at a gathering and have everyone playing within seconds. Share a link, pick a name, and you're in. No downloads, no sign-ups, no friction. We wanted the energy of sitting around a table with friends — the heated debates over whether "pizza" counts as a "breakfast food," the laughter when two people write the exact same obscure answer.

Then something unexpected happened: the solo mode we built "just for practice" turned out to be one of the most fun parts. Competing against an AI judge, trying to come up with the most creative answer you can, keeping your streak alive — it's surprisingly addictive on its own. So Bluffalo became two things: a party game you can start in seconds, and a solo word game you can pick up whenever you have a spare minute.

How It Works

Bluffalo offers three ways to play:

Built for Everyone

Bluffalo works on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Party mode uses peer-to-peer connections, keeping answers between you and your friends. Solo and Bluffalo modes use AI judging powered by Anthropic's Claude. The game supports seven languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch) and includes both light and dark themes.

The Team

Bluffalo is built and maintained by an independent developer. The game is a passion project — we care about making it fun, fast, and fair. If you have feedback, ideas, or just want to say hello, reach out on the contact page.
